Edinburgh International Film Festival
The Edinburgh International Film Festival is when Scotland's
Capital City turns into tinseltown and experiences the glamour of Hollywood
for a film-packed fourteen days each summer.
Director Lizzie
Francke has brought many big films to the Festival, including LA
Confidential, Nil By Mouth and the UK smash hit comedy, The
Full Monty. Lizzie
Francke has been Director since 1997 - her predecessor was Mark
Cousins.
The Edinburgh International Film Festival does
not often open with a Scottish film. In 1984 the Scottish film Comfort
and Joy opened the Festival, and then - fifteen years later - the
1999 extravaganza was opened by the World Premiere of Ratcatcher.
The 1999 headliner was the debut film by Glasgow
director Lynne Ramsay.
