MacDonald, James Ramsay
James Ramsay MacDonald was born in Lossiemouth in 1866,
though it was in Bristol that his career began to take shape. He took
an interest in socialist politics, and the formation of the Independent
Labour Party in 1893 won his support.
James Ramsay MacDonald became first Secretary and then
later the Leader of the Labour Party, becoming the Prime Minister of the
first British Labour government in 1924. He repeated this feat again between
1929 and 1935.
