Stevenson, Thomas
Born in 1818, Thomas Stevenson was the son of lighthouse
pioneer Robert Stevenson. He designed a revolving light which was
a modified form of the Fresnel fixed light apparatus.
One of the original members of the Scottish Meteorlogical
Society, Thomas Stevenson was heavily involved with the establishment
of an observatory on Ben Nevis.
He married Margaret
Balfour from Colinton, near Edinburgh. Novelist and poet Robert Louis
Stevenson was their son.
Thomas Stevenson died in 1887.
