Watson-Watt, Sir Robert
Scottish inventor Robert Watson-Watt who was born in
Brechin in 1892, was the pioneer of radar. He worked out that an aircraft
could be tracked by radio signals and recommended a national system of
radar defences. These played a vital part in World War II, most notably
in 1942’s Battle of Britain. This acheivment resulted in the pioneer receiving
a Knighthood for his creation. Watson-Watt died in Inverness.
