Historic Biggar is a pleasant medieval town in the scenic Clyde Valley, a town with a rich and varied history. There is arguably nowhere else in Scotland with as much of interest in the one town. Biggar and it's attractions have won numerous awards, including Best Tourist Town In Scotland, Scotland In Bloom, and individual awards to it's museums.

Biggar has a cross-section of history in the one location. The roots of the burgh date back for centuries: there is evidence that Biggar Common was inhabited in the Stone Age.

Biggar is an excellent base from which to explore this fascinating and scenic area of Scotland! Much of Southern and Central Scotland is within easy reach, and even the historic town of Stirling, is still within travelling distance. New Lanark, the world heritage village, Lanark, the home town of William Wallace, Leadhills and Wanlockhead (lead-mines), Peebles, and Traquair House are all within thirty minutes of Biggar. Edinburgh and Glasgow are also within easy reach of this historic burgh.
