I have a long standing
interest in the shipping and shipbuilding scene,
have compiled a spreadsheet list of some 22,000
'Clydebuilt' ships and amassed a significant
collection of Clyde ship photos. I am currently
assembling this into an order form and hope to
put some of it on a web page in future. I have
been involved in the efforts to preserve the
paddle steamer Waverley, the last seagoing
paddler in the world and the last in the very
long line of famous Clyde Steamers. I have been a
Waverley Commodore Club member (season ticket
holder) for 17 years and I am currently a
committee member of the Scottish Branch of the
Paddle Steamer Preservation Society.
I am intersted in receiving any photos - old or
new - of the Clyde its shipyards and ships, any
out of print publications on the subject and
would be pleased to answer any questions on the
subject if I can
I live in Cambuslang and work in Mitsui Babcock
(ex Babcock & Wilcox) at Renfrew. I am Group
Leader of the Burners Group at the company's
Technology Centre which is involved in developing
new combustion equipment for the reduction of
atmospheric emissions. |

I was born and raised in the
States, but both my parents came from Scotland.
Mum was born in Blantyre and raised in Carfin.
Her maiden name was Lizzie McGuire. Her mother
was Katie Higgins and I believe Mum still has
cousins in the Blantyre area on the Higgins side.
Her sister lived in Newarthill until her death
and I have cousins there. My dad came from Dundee
and his sister and family lived in Methil, Fife,
until their death. I still have a cousin in
Dunfermline. I have visited Scotland four times
for a total of about six months, and I loved
every minute. I would love to hear from somebody
who comes from the area my mum came from. I'm in
the wrong web pages to find anyone from Dundee.
Actually, I do know more about the
Glasgow/Lanarkshire area, both from visiting and
listening to mum reminisce. I am single and
worked as a speech therapist until I recently
took early retirement. |
