Gourock
|
...
welcome to Gourock, Scotland where the Clyde Meets the Sea.
|
Gourock
is located on the end of the bank where the River Clyde meets the sea,
and is one of the most popular holiday resorts in the Inverclyde district
of The Clyde Valley.
Once a
small fishing town known for it's herring, Gourock now boasts
several visitor attractions, as well as being a ferry point for the
Cowal Peninsula.

History
Gourock
is home to two tributes to the days when sailing ships and steamboats
frequented the Firth of Clyde.
On a hill
in Gourock The Granny Kempock Stone can be found, a six feet
high monolith. Once upon a time it was believed that the Stone brought
luck, not only to sailors, but also brought good fortune to newlyweds.
On McInroy's
Point, and not far off from Gourock Esplanade is Cloch Lighthouse,
which is still operational today, shining light to warn ships away from
the shallow waters on the shore of the estuary.

Seaside Town
Gourock
is home to an esplanade, a park, and, despite Scotland's reputation
for cold and wet weather, Gourock even boasts an outdoor swimming pool!
The town's services, along with its proximity to the city of Glasgow
make Gourock a popular holiday resort.

Views
An ideal
place from which to take in the majesty of the River Clyde as it joins
the Irish Sea is the Tower Hill in Gourock. The hill provides excellent
views of the Firth of Clyde, and is a clear vantage point for the area.
