Hamilton
Old Parish Church. |
Hamilton
Old Parish Church is the only church that William Adam
ever designed. Built in 1734, it is the oldest building in this
fascinating town that is still used for it's original purpose. The
Covenanters 'Heads Memorial' found inside the Church commemorates
local Covenanters beheaded after the Pentland Rising in 1666. Also
to be found is the pre-Norman Netherton Cross. |
Chatelherault
Country Park - Ferniegair, by Hamilton.
| The
Dukes of Hamilton hunting lodge, dating back to the eighteenth
century, was designed by William Adam and now has a visitor centre.
The country park that surrounds the lodge contains the ruins of
Cadzow castle and an ancient breed of white cattle.
The
Dukes of Hamilton at one time also had a home in the Avon Valley
- in Strathaven Castle.
